About the College of Music

Why Opus was Created

Opus Colorado was created from a simple observation: artistic development extends beyond the lesson studio.

Traditional music instruction often focuses almost exclusively on repertoire and technique. While those remain essential, today's professional musicians also benefit from physical preparation, thoughtful career development, and individualized mentorship that reflects the realities of a modern performing career.

Opus was designed to bring these elements together in a focused educational model: one that values depth over volume, quality over scale, and meaningful artistic growth over unnecessary complexity.

Our online model wasn't designed to replace traditional music education; it was designed to expand possibilities.

By removing geographic limitations, students can study with distinguished performers and educators while continuing to perform, teach, and build their careers where they live. This approach preserves the individualized mentorship central to Opus while providing access to exceptional faculty regardless of location.

The Opus Framework

Opus Colorado integrates three core areas of development:

  • Music — Individualized instruction emphasizing technical refinement, artistic interpretation, stylistic understanding, performance preparation, and consistent musical growth. Students study with faculty actively performing and teaching at leading conservatories, universities, and professional orchestras.

  • Strategy  — Develop practical frameworks for performance preparation, auditions, career decisions, and the evolving realities of professional musicianship. Students are introduced to foundational nervous-system regulation strategies for performance pressure while learning structured approaches to prioritization, goal-setting, and long-term artistic development.

  • Movement — Professional performance is physically demanding. Students work directly with a licensed personal trainer and receive individualized guidance in strength, mobility, nutrition, recovery, and injury resilience to support healthy, sustainable performance throughout their careers.

A Focused Educational Model

Opus Colorado is intentionally designed around focused, individualized study.

Rather than emphasizing a broad collection of courses, our programs prioritize deliberate practice, individualized mentorship, physical readiness, and thoughtful professional development.

The result is a streamlined educational experience that allows students to concentrate on the areas most essential to long-term artistic growth.
